Information to record
Use these prompts to agree the record for your project. Keep the answers and their source references together; leave an unknown value explicit rather than filling it with an assumption.
- Map purpose
- State the context the background should provide.
- Background source
- Identify the provider or supplied plan.
- Source date
- Retain dates where available and relevant.
- Overlay contrast
- Check pins and lines against the background.
- Usage requirements
- Record applicable attribution or permission information.
Checks for this task
- Do not assume background imagery depicts current site conditions.
- Check attribution and usage requirements for the actual source.
- Review the final PDF for contrast and label readability.
A worked example
Illustrative example, not a client case: An aerial background helps the client recognise the site, but the report identifies its source and keeps the field visit date separate. A simpler detail view is used where imagery obscures labels.
Scope and limits
A background image does not confirm ownership, current condition or the exact position of every tree.
Use the worksheet
The download contains the prompts and checks above with space for your project notes. It is a plain text document you can edit in a text editor or copy into your project brief. It contains no client information and does not run calculations, import records or change an account.
