Information to record
Use these prompts to agree the record for your project. Keep the answers and their source references together; leave an unknown value explicit rather than filling it with an assumption.
- Tree and stem
- Identify which trunk or stem the entry concerns.
- Recorded value
- Include the unit with the original measurement.
- Measurement position
- Describe the position required by the agreed method.
- Method note
- Identify direct measurement, conversion or estimate.
- Limitation
- Explain features or access affecting the entry.
Checks for this task
- Agree the measurement convention before collection.
- Do not label circumference as diameter without a documented conversion.
- Check the schedule does not round away useful source information.
A worked example
Illustrative example, not a client case: A recorder enters a circumference value in the source notes and a derived diameter in a separate field. The units and conversion reference are retained, allowing the reviewer to check what was recorded.
Scope and limits
Follow the applicable commissioned method; this page does not select a diameter measurement standard.
Use the worksheet
The download contains the prompts and checks above with space for your project notes. It is a plain text document you can edit in a text editor or copy into your project brief. It contains no client information and does not run calculations, import records or change an account.
