Information to record
Use these prompts to agree the record for your project. Keep the answers and their source references together; leave an unknown value explicit rather than filling it with an assumption.
- Decision context
- Describe the property or project choice.
- Tree information
- Identify existing records and unresolved observations.
- Design options
- List options the team is considering.
- Constraints
- Describe relevant access, space or project requirements.
- Decision audience
- Identify who will read and act on the advice.
Checks for this task
- Provide the current proposal rather than an obsolete layout.
- Ask what additional evidence is needed to compare options.
- Keep professional findings distinct from the client’s preferred outcome.
A worked example
Illustrative example, not a client case: A client is considering two landscape layouts around an existing tree. The brief supplies both options and asks for the information needed to evaluate retention, without presenting either option as already endorsed.
Scope and limits
The brief does not determine retention suitability or planning permissions; those depend on the commissioned assessment and applicable process.
Use the worksheet
The download contains the prompts and checks above with space for your project notes. It is a plain text document you can edit in a text editor or copy into your project brief. It contains no client information and does not run calculations, import records or change an account.
