Information to record
Use these prompts to agree the record for your project. Keep the answers and their source references together; leave an unknown value explicit rather than filling it with an assumption.
- Reason for enquiry
- Describe the concern or project decision.
- Tree identity
- Show the specific tree and its location.
- Available evidence
- List photographs, reports and relevant history.
- Alternatives considered
- Record other options the client wants assessed.
- Required recipient
- State who needs the advice and why.
Checks for this task
- Do not describe an unassessed tree as unsafe simply to support a preferred result.
- Identify neighbouring or boundary trees needing scope clarification.
- Ask which approvals or other enquiries need to be checked separately.
A worked example
Illustrative example, not a client case: A property owner is considering removal because of proposed works. The brief supplies the current design and asks for an assessment of the tree and options, rather than requesting a predetermined justification.
Scope and limits
The assessment enquiry does not authorise removal or guarantee an approval outcome.
Use the worksheet
The download contains the prompts and checks above with space for your project notes. It is a plain text document you can edit in a text editor or copy into your project brief. It contains no client information and does not run calculations, import records or change an account.
