Information to record
Use these prompts to agree the record for your project. Keep the answers and their source references together; leave an unknown value explicit rather than filling it with an assumption.
- Intended outcome
- Explain the issue rather than prescribing a cut.
- Tree reference
- Identify the tree and its setting.
- Previous work
- Give dates and records of known earlier pruning.
- Observed features
- Describe changes or concerns with photographs.
- Advice format
- State whether you need written recommendations or a scoped report.
Checks for this task
- Include the whole tree and relevant context in photographs.
- Keep a desired outcome separate from a proposed work specification.
- Clarify which trees and advice are included in the assessment.
A worked example
Illustrative example, not a client case: A client requests advice about branches near a building. The enquiry shows their position and describes previous pruning, allowing the consultant to assess the problem without an assumed instruction to remove particular limbs.
Scope and limits
This is an assessment brief, not pruning instructions, an operational method or permission to carry out work.
Use the worksheet
The download contains the prompts and checks above with space for your project notes. It is a plain text document you can edit in a text editor or copy into your project brief. It contains no client information and does not run calculations, import records or change an account.
